True greats – the Mercedes of Coys

Greatness is a concept and a position we idolise. Over the years many have waxed lyrical about greatness and what it means to achieve it. ‘Some are born great and others have greatness thrust upon them‘ is a classic saying about grasping opportunity. ‘Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some hire public relations officers‘ is an adage that suits a digital world down to the ground . Despite this inspiration on demand Greatness is something you can find in the latest Coys sale – Coys True Greats, to be exact.

That’s right True Greats is back with a simply beautiful stock that we can’t wait to see and what we’re sure will be a sale to remember. Amongst the stock of expensive exotica and bona-fide classics there is a rather lovely crop of Mercedes-Benz’ that we thought you might like to take a closer look at, if you’re interested? Great.

2005 Mercedes McLaren SLR

The champion of the noughties returns, and surprisingly valued at less than the CLK DTM! At £180,000 – £220,000 it’s a relative bargain compared to where prices have been for the SLR. We will be watching with great interest when this one comes across the auction lot on Tuesday. Read more about this silver arrow HERE.

1964 280 (230) SL

Yes you’re right to query that one. Formerly in the ownership of the Getty Family, this example was subject to a cost-no-object restoration and upgraded to 280 specifications by marque specialists Silchester Garage. With photographs and invoices to document works carried out, including disc brakes, automatic transmission, power steering, 280 engine upgrade and air conditioning.
