Mercedes-Benz at the UK’s biggest auction of 2017

This weekend marks CCA’s auction at the practical classics restoration show at the Birmingham NEC. The auction is the largest of its size this year featuring 200 lots, including 27 BMWs. As well as the finest from BMW there are also featured several Mercedes Benz cars of note, we’ve got the best three pointed star cars for you below.

Lot 220 – 1996 320 SL convertible

A divisive SL for the die hards the R129 SL is a stark reminder of what the 90’s actually look like without those rose tinted specs. Opinions of the R129 aside, however, this 320 SL looks like quite the proposition with rare slate grey paintwork that is worn nicely by the low slung body. This car is said to be in good condition and is estimated to sell for between £5,000 – £7,000.

Lot 234 – 1990 190E Cosworth

The name Cosworth carries a great deal of weight in the motoring world, so much so that when we hear about one for sale our ears are pricked and we immediately want to know more. This Silver 1990 model is one of the 16 valve cars with 204bhp and has been with it’s current owner for the past two years. Like the 320 SL before it this 190E is described as being in good condition with all leather inside having been recently reconnolised and all switches being brought up to standard.

We don’t need to tell you how rare or competent the 190E is, but we do need to tell you that it is estimated to sell for between £10,000 – £12,000. Take a closer look HERE.

Lot 252 – 1972 280SE

Offered for sale is a 3.5L 1972 Mercedes 280SE automatic that has been with the current owner for the last 41 years. The 280SE is a car admired by many, and this car has an equally enthralling history. Won by it’s current owner’s late father this gorgeous gold Merc has only had two owners and is said to be in ‘remarkable’ condition due to being in dry storage for over 30 years.

Lot 266 – 1980 350 SL

One of the more sporting R107 models this 350 SL certainly looks the part for some summer motoring. This 3.5L car comes with a partial history file and not a great deal more to say about it. CCA describe the condition as good, and would have been rated higher had the car come with more complete history.

Interested? This R107 is expected to fetch between £9,000 – £11,000 and you can read more HERE.

Lot 271 – 1960 Mercedes 190SL

In 2016 Classic car Britain loved a barn find, and we still do in 2017. This 2.0L 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL manual is such a barn find, a gorgeous model in need of a bit of TLC. This car has its original radio and soft and hard tops as well. Condition is not ideal as it is a barn find however its price tag of £20,000 – £25,000 is a touch easier to swallow.
