Low mileage fast Fords to star at Silvertone’s NEC sale

Silverstone Auctions have rounded up an impressive collection of extreme low mileage fast Fords, to be sold at their NEC Classic Motor Show sale on November 11-12.

Affordable performance cars don’t typically have an easy life, and as a consequence there are often not many of the older ones around anymore. They get thrashed mercilessly, raced, crashed or stolen, and most of them end up being written off or broken for parts.

Some of the survivors end up being restored, but nothing beats true originality and values clearly reflect this. Prices of any surviving performance Fords are rising rapidly, and these four are sure to break some records when they go under the hammer next week.

The low numbers showing on their odometers are impressive, but it’s even more incredible when you average that use out over their lifespan. In a given 12 month period, some of these fast Ford’s have been driven little further than around the block.

2011 Focus RS – 18mi (3mi/year) – £38–44,000

This Focus RS wears the launch colour of Ultimate Green, and is exactly as delivered in 2011 – down to the plastic seat covers and the warning label for transport spring spacers in the window. How the original owner retained enough self-control not to make best use of the 301bhp from the turbocharged five cylinder remains a mystery.

Lot number 312, Saturday 11th November, from 11am. View the listing by clicking here.

1996 Ford Escort Cosworth Lux – 837mi (39mi/year) – £85-95,000

The Escort RS Cosworth represents the high-watermark of road going rally cars in the nineties, when major manufacturers produced legitimate homologation specials to allow them to compete on the special stage. This UK delivered, right-hand drive ‘lux’ model still wears its original Pirelli tyres (with unworn sidewall spikes), and remains protected by the original factory applied Waxoyl.

Lot number 324, Saturday 11th November, from 11am. View the listing by clicking here.

1980 Ford Escort Mk II RS2000 Custom – 927mi (25mi/year) – £80-90,000

The RS2000 may not have the trick Cosworth engine fitted to the earlier RS1800, but it was still the hero car of Eighties England and but a dream for many. This example was delivered new to Nottingham and covered just 700mi in eight years with its first owner. It was subsequently sold into a climate controlled collection, and still has that new car smell.

Lot number 342, Saturday 11th November, from 11am. View the listing by clicking here.

1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 – 6037mi (208mi/year) – £100-115,000

The RS500 edition of the Sierra Cosworth was produced by Tickford Engineering to homologate a special Evolution package of developments, designed to make the race cars more competitive in the British and European Touring Car Championships. This RS500 is not only remarkable for its rarity and low mileage, but for the fact that it is surely one of the only unmodified and completely original RS500’s left.

Lot number 313, Saturday 11th November, from 11am. View the full listing by clicking here.
