Development Roadmap – November 2016

Well, we may have finally ticked into November, the events season is over and our classics have been tucked away for the winter, but the engines are revving when it comes to the development roadmap on Classic Car Auction Results. Here’s just some highlights of things we’re looking at in the near future – what do you think about this priority list? Let us know in this contact form!

1. We really want to feature some of the online auctions, like eBay or Catawiki. We know that sometimes there’s considered a lack of transparency on what happens with online auction prices, versus the offline varieties, but let’s get that information out there! We will show the online auctions separately, and allow you to disaggregate the data, but we think this will be a really cool step.

2. We want to add at least one auction house per month. There’s a surprising number of auction houses out there, and seemingly more discovered every week, so building up the most comprehensive list of information as soon as possible is key for us. You can help! Currently we use scrapers to collect auction data automatically, which has lots of advantages, but if you’re involved in an auction house, want to see your data here quickly and can send us it in a database, then we’ll work double quick-time to get your data up. If that’s you, please drop us a note here.

3. Related to this, we’re going to add the details of the auction houses we’ve got planned into our auction table, with estimated time of when we’ll have them on the site. Again, if you want to see your data there faster, get in touch!

4. We love data, and we love when it’s shared widely. DVLA and the Department of Transport have some great data sets, including some showing how many of each type of car are left on the roads of the UK. We’d love to superimpose that data onto the auction results so you can see how car prices have also changed with the scarcity of the model, and help you spot any anomalies.

5. We’re working on some little bugs and fixes. For example, bless them but the guys at H and H auctions recently changed their site around, and their URL structure. That messes with our links a bit, but we’ll get there – and apologies for any dead links or 404 error messages in the meantime! There are also some issues we’ve noted on our mobile-optimised site, which we’re working to sort out, so you can easily check auction results on the move.

6. We’re going to be looking at adding more subscription levels, with more functionality at each level. For example, we want to add in a ‘traders’ subscription level, so if you’re really serious about auction results, you’ll be able to get some really heavy duty analysis tools. Including…

7. We want you to be able to download the data, and play with it for yourself. After all, this data is freely available – all we ask you to pay for is our time and technology in aggregating it, and helping you to analyse it. But if you don’t like our analysis – do it yourself!

8. One analytical tool we want to bring in is to update the auction houses table for the results that you get, so you can quickly compare different houses and decide where the best place to buy (or sell!) your 911 actually is…!

Right, that’s all for November. What do you think of our priorities? What would you focus on or rather see? Let us know in this contact form.
