CCA Practical classics auction round-up

Last weekend marked CCA’s auction at the practical restoration show at the Birmingham NEC. CCA made sure they would not go unnoticed among the crowds with a 200 strong auction of everyman classic cars. After what has been a tumultuous start to the year for classic car sales CCA managed to pull through with one of the best auctions of the year with an impressive sell through rate of 75% and £2.4million sale. We’ve lined up the bet sales from the record breaking day for you below.

1969 Triumph GT6

One of the often overlooked Triumph cars the GT6 has some good looking lines that look more exotic than it’s British heritage would suggest. This mk2 model was in good condition and had only had two previous owners before the sale. When the hammer dropped with CCA it sold for £7,920.

1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo mk2

Fast Fords are taking over the classic car market at the moment and the Escort RS turbo seems to be leading the charge. In terms of price-hike in recent years this car’s transformation is nothing short of staggering. This particular white mk2 manual model scored incredibly highly on CCA’s condition rating and sold for a mighty £20,350. Take a look at the graph below to see how this compares to other RS Turbos sold at auction.

PAST AUCTION FUTURE AUCTION

1985 BMW M635 CSi Manual

Now here’s one of the surprises of the auction, although given it’s condition and pedigree shouldn’t have been a surprise at all. This rare ‘motorsport edition’ manual M635 had just over 15,000 miles, was untouched and only had two owners. It is little surprise, then, that it sold for £100,100 over the weekend. We’re very jealous of the new owner, you can read more about the car HERE.

2009 mk2 Ford Focus RS

If you’re a returning reader you will have noticed us talking about this particular vehicle ahead of the CCA auction. The estimate on this über low mileage car was that it would sell for between £32,000 – £36,000 when in reality it sold for a mega £40,920. Due to it’s low mileage there are those who will say it is a garage queen that has never been or will never be driven hard as it is supposed to, and there could be some legs to that theory. Or as we like to think it is actually a statement of how strong the market and enthusiasts scene is for these fast Fords that there are those who want to preserve them in concours condition.

That said it is a bit of a shame to put a car like this to waste, you’d best fight it out in the comments!

2005 997 Porsche Carrera S

Okay, so we’re not breaking records here but it is always good to keep an eye on what the newer cars are doing in the market. Although made just four years prior to the record breaking Ford above this 997 Carrera S marks a horizon for 997 values – surely they can’t drop that much lower? This Silver RWD S model sold for just £15,400 which is one hell of a lot of car for one hell of a not a lot of money. For the same amount as a second hand hot hatch you can pick up a Porsche, and there may well be some room for the prices to fall further. A great steal at CCA’s auction and one that has got me cruising the upcoming CCA auctions looking for a cheap 997.
